About The Author: Chandrani Wamasuriya

Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Chandrani Wamasuriya and her family moved to the United States in 1991. Chandrani's love for children led her to become a follower of Maria Montessori. She became a Montessori teacher retiring in 2004.

Educated at Good Shepherd Convent Kandy, Sri Lanka, Chandrani entered the University of Sri Lanka, Peradeniya, and graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree and a Honors Degree in Philosophy in 1968. She continued her studies with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education in 1986 and a Master's Degree in Comparative Religion from the University of Lancaster, England.

Chandrani enjoyed writing, it had been her hobby since childhood. Chandrani wished to be connected with children so she began writing as an inspirational children's writer. Chandrani has written many stories for children including several volumes of children's poetry. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
 
Favorite Folktales of Sri Lanka, is her first fiction book for children. This book was written to mark the sixtieth (Golden Jubilee) Independence Anniversary of Sri Lanka in 2008.

Chandrani Wamasuriya is the mother of two grown children, Sanji and Muditha. A grandmother of a darling grand-daughter, Melissa Bernadette. Chandrani  lives in Duarte, California.
